MARKETING / AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT

1) Creative/Design

     Intern works with creative team, brand managers, advertising sales representatives and clients to design ads and multimedia campaigns that suit the clients' needs and elicit a response from the target audience.

     Who should apply: Sophomores, juniors and seniors with exceptional computer and design skills. They will be designing both print and online ads and campaigns.

     Requirements: One professional internship in this area or a related field and/or work at a college publication.


NEWS

1) Intern - Web (tampabay.com)

      This Web internship seeks candidates with a variety of skill-sets in multimedia journalism. Multimedia design candidates must be able to edit sound and video, should know Flash, Photoshop and the basics of HTML. Reporters must be able to shoot video, collect audio and report and write accurately on deadline. Producers must be able to edit copy, write headlines and make news judgments in a publish-it-now environment. Computer-assisted reporters must be familiar with database-building tools such as Django and have experience linking data to news stories.

      Who should apply: Sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students with some or all of the above skills and experience at a college publication/web site or professional publication/website.

 

 2) Reporting - News reporting positions (no sports).

     “Hands-on” experience of reporting hard news and feature stories for print and for web, as assigned by an editor or as required by the beat.

     Who should apply: Sophomores, juniors and seniors who have had experience at a college publication and at least one professional reporting internship.

 

3) Reporting - Editorial Board - PITTMAN SCHOLAR


     This is an editorial board internship. "Hands-on" experience working with the editorial board and reporting a mix of hard news and feature stories as assigned by an editor or as required by the beat.

     Who should apply: Juniors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill only who have had experience at a college daily newspaper and at least one professional reporting internship.



4) Reporting -  Peterman Reporting Internship (for students at HBCU's only).

     “Hands-on” experience of reporting hard news and feature stories for print and for web, as assigned by an editor or as required by the beat.

     Who should apply: Juniors at HBCU's who have had experience at a college publication and at least one professional reporting internship.

 

5) Copy Editing -

     Copy editors work on various desks. Design skills a plus.

     Who should apply: Sophomores, juniors and seniors who have had experience at a college publication and at least one professional design/copy editing internship.

IMPORTANT! Deadline for NEWS Internship applications is November 15 (postmarked). Mail to Nancy Waclawek, St. Petersburg Times, P.O. Box 1121, St. Petersburg, FL 33731. On OUTSIDE OF ENVELOPE, indicate which position you are applying for. Send cover letter, resume and 5 or 6 clips that show the range of your work. This is a paid internship ($450/week). Official start/end dates: May 24 to Aug. 13, 2010 (but we can be flexible based on your academic calendar.)
